Hi Sophie: This is a good question. I suppose one of the things people who stutter can do is educate their listeners. This often has to occur one at a time. Listeners often don't know how to react to people who stutter, so if we just let them know what we expect that takes a lot of pressure off both us and our listener. Unfortunately, this is easier said than done. Often, when we try to "educate" our listener, it is interpreted as defensiveness. Being able to put listeners at ease is a good skill to acquire and develop. I hope this helps. Bob Q.
