I first got wind of how some folks felt about the "scientific evidence" this past summer at a conference, and the effects on the whole community of attendees. What you say is so true. An ebp technique that feels good for one clinician may not feel good for another. Different tools can be used to accomplish the same task. No one has the right to say that "this is the one"! We are all different, and we need to use what fits us. One size does not fit all! When I have a practicum student, I always tell them not to think they have to use my model. I want them to take what is comfortable for them, and discard what is not. But now for the EBP, and you can see by the letter case what is important, empathy is only empathy if it is recognized by the client. Although it would be nice to acheive fluency, for both the clinician's ego and the client, it is not always the best initial goal. Evidence shows that quick fixes are not lasting. Balance and comfort are the the keys. Thanks for your article.
