Hi Jerry: Nice to hear from you! I try to teach empathy to my budding young SLPs by having them go out and stutter in public. A few laps around Wal-Mart looking for an "easy" person to talk to, or leaving McDonald's without ordering because you (Mc)Chickened out of your "stuttering in public" exercise can be very edifying. Making an audiotape of those "fluency enhancing behaviors" that are so easy to do is very helpful, as well. You (and I) are old enough to recall the operant arguments from the '70s. The stuff we read today brings back memories of the good ol' days, doesn't it? Fortuntely, I'm not a lone wolf. It's just that a vocal few are drowning all the wolves out. Thanks for your comments.
