I enjoyed your paper and like the idea of reducing the negative stigma of stuttering in society and personally for people who stutter. In your paper you indicated that voluntary stuttering needs to be practiced many times and in a variety of situations before judgments can be made on its usefulness. My only concern with this approach is that the repeated act of voluntary stuttering creates disfluency practice and may increase a person’s disfluency rate (i.e. non-voluntary stutters) in spontaneous speech. Do you know of any research to support of refute this concern? How long should a person use this strategy before s/he can decide if it is right for him/her?
