Hi Peter, Thank you for such an informative paper. I have witnessed voluntary stuttering have a positive influence upon the lives of many PWS. It is a very powerful tool, yet the concept can sometimes be difficult to convey to those whom you are encouraging to implement it. It has been my experience that voluntary stuttering puts the user so much in control of the speaking situation. Unlike ‘involuntary stuttering’, he/she decides when to create the nature and duration of the dysfluency. You quite properly mention that maintaining eye contact is an important factor. I have found that when you look someone in the eye, and voluntary stutter 'with dignity', even total strangers (approached in the street) appear to accept it without any uneasiness. I have also seen it used regularly as an effective fear-reduction and desensitisation tool. Digressing slightly, I am aware that some PWS use heavy voluntary stuttering when answering unsolicited telephone calls from unwanted salesmen ;-) I look forward to the publication of your book. Kindest regards Alan
