Gary, Your article was nothing but great, and I thoroughly agree that we often spend more time on trying to change or modify the stuttering behaviors, without looking at the "core" of the problem. My experience is that folks who are paying for treatment don't necessarily think that working on that area is of valud. I have a hard time admitting that my areas of emotional sensitivity have any effect on my behavior, but when I take a really good look into myself, everything I do is based on my feelings. I don't like to admit my weakness. I think this is true for most human beings. I am trying to be the person who is able to encourage my clients to take the serious look at this aspect of their stuttering, and still feel like I am giving quality service. My goal is to spend at least half of the session on precipitous emotions/feelings, if my client will let me, and have them feel good about it. Thank you for your website! I have been using it constantly (have I worn it out yet?) since you gave it to us last year at ASHA at your wonderful presentation. I feel like I am always a student of yours (almost daily!). I am so fortunate to have such a resource in you. Thank you.
