Dr. Rentschler, I enjoyed reading your article! I have a question regarding the role of the SLP in counseling PWS regarding the emotions/behaviors that accompany stuttering moments. Do you feel that SLPs have sufficient training in counseling such areas? Or would it be more ideal to involve both the SLP and a psychologist in tx? Also, it seems that PWS experience a significantly greater amount of anxiety than people who do not stutter- especially those who are untreated or unwilling to accept and work on their stuttering. Some of the examples of beliefs/reactions/etc. of PWS you provide sound similar to symptoms of anxiety disorders. Do you think that PWS sometimes suffer from anxiety disorders, secondary to their stuttering?
