I found that your article addresses an integral part of stuttering therapy, that of counseling clients on how to develop strategies to cope with their stuttering. Practically all of the biographies in this conference address the emotional issues that come along with stuttering. Although it is often spoken of, you’ve written concrete approaches to deal with these problems. I particularly enjoyed how you would go about eliminating the tension caused by a person who stutters belief that he/she can’t be fluent in a certain situation. Counseling will help the client learn what situations he/she is having difficulty with. The specific coping strategies outlined in your article can then be taught to help eliminate pre-tension, resulting in more fluent speech.
