Elgin: My point was that the PWS should not feel victim to his/her stuttering; that one can learn to use the resources they are pretty much ignoring to empower them. Knowing that "I always stutter on my name" can be used to change the habitual pattern of tensing, rapid inspiration, and abrupt voice onset (as an example). Instead of letting the knowledge enhance fears and build anxieties, we must learn to take the cue to use targets or in some way alter that "rut" (speaking pattern). I hope that you might check out the website I have developed to support students in the Stutternig Clinic at my university. www.stuttering.duq.edu Good to hear from you.
