Judith, The SLP that I have talked several times told me that unless your brain is 'hard-wired' for stuttering during its formation in the womb, you will not begin to stuttter as an adult without an injury to the brain. While talking to her, we decided that probably there was a slight disfluency that was overlooked or perhaps it just never triggered until the stress was so bad. Who knows? All I know is that now I stutter, whereas before I did not!
