Raeanne, I had been in counseling for about 7 months when the stuttering started, fortunately because I needed the therapy to get thru the grief and sense of loss that I felt when this all started. Not to mention the fact that my counselor had stuttered for a while as a child. The only technique that really has been any use to me has been to just keep on talking, no matter how bad the stutter is. There have been times when I stay mute because I cannot get a word, any word out. If I just keep on talking, it doesn't take as long to get over the bad speech times. I do not use stutter modifications, and it makes no difference as to the rate of speed that I talk in. I have tried slow, fast and in-between, doesn't make any difference. Yes, stress and tiredness make some difference, some days more than others.
