I seem to be having difficulty with this reply; I hope this one works. I have had some experience treating school aged Down's Syndrom Children. The treatment is effective with some caveats. When the child tries to use language that is too complex for their ability we see an increase in %SS. In one case we were able to get a decrease from 24%SS in spontaneous conversation down to 4%SS. At that time the child was able to be a functional communicator and we put her on a Maintenance program to stall the progress at that level while we began a block of 10 sessions for language. This was a useful approach. I have treated a preschool aged boy with Specific Language Impairment and he achieved the stated Stage 2 critia but it took longer than the published treatment time and we saw much more variability in his ability to meet the criteria so we had to make the stage 2 maintenance meetings spaced closer together for longer times.
