Dr. Shenker, Thanks for your informative article. It seems that you mostly prefer a direct method of intervention. Am I right to assume this? I am wondering at what age you think a direct paradigm begins to be appropriate. Although I am rather "green" in the area of stuttering, I have heard some say that an indirect paradigm is best with preschool children, and even in early school-age children a portion of the therapy session should be devoted to educating/training the parents. I know this is virtually impossible in a school system, though. I suppose my basic question is, at what age do you think a child is ready for direct invention, being educated about his/her stuttering, and being involved in the decision-making process? Does this depend on the maturity level of the individual child? Thanks in advance for your reply!
