Tom was ok on last follow up done about 6 months ago, but in general we have found that the older children who stutter are more variable in the course of maintenance; that is, they fail to meet the criteria for maintenance more frequently than the younger children and require more vigilant support in the beyond clinic setting from parents, teachers and others in order to maintain their fluency. Our experience has been, however, that when older children return tothe clinic with a bit more stuttering at any one maintenance meeting, it doesn't take long for them to return to their maintenance criteria and it has been rare for children to relapse back to pre treatment levels. So I think that this is good news. This is also in agreement with others who have reported using simple treatment like the Lidcombe Program with older children.
