Hello, Jerry, Working with shenpa is helping me remove obstacles to seeing clearly, thinking clearly, and acting skillfully to live more and more fully in the present where true joy, satisfaction, and opportunities can manifest. This is where living, rather than existing, takes place. The past is a corpse. Trying to keep it alive can drain body and spirit. The future is unkown but evolves from the present, so the challenge is to live well NOW! // Another truly satisfying aspect of working with shenpa comes from knowing that the results I am experiencing I helped fashion for myself. No one is transforming me. I am doing the work myself, like taking on a home remodeling or landscaping job after reading a manual and, maybe, attending a demonstration or two. And that's impetus aplenty to take on even more projects in their time. // Yes, it takes courage and perseverance. But, as you indicated, that's not a bad alternative to sadness, even depression, arising from clinging to stagnant, hurt feelings that could, otherwise, be suffocating. And, what's more, increasing personal strength and courage through applying them to the process of learning to stay, rather than run from unpleasantness, become two more wonderful benefits of the practice. Thank you, Jerry, for sharing your wisdom. And thanks to Pema Chodron and one of her teachers, Zigar Kongtrul (I hope I am spelling his name correctly), for her teachings on shenpa. Sincerely, Ellen-Marie Silverman
