Hi Elizabeth, Thanks for the feedback. Yes, the assignment can be very helpful. It is time-consuming for the students to transcribe (write) everything that was said, but it helps them appreciate the value of good questions as well as think clearly about what the person was communicating. Another problem is that some students do not know anyone who stutters. It is a good idea to keep a list of people you know or have met who once stuttered or stutter occasionally to help those students whose families don't know anyone who stutters or ever stuttered. In some cases I ask the students to write to STUTT-L and ask is anyone would like to be interviewed on the telephone. That has happened several times, and at least two of the stories in the book came from those phone interviews. (Of course, before tape recording anyone on the telephone, it is necessary to get their permission on the tape.) Good luck. Ken
