Hello Mr. St. Louis- Thank you so much for sharing your story! I am currently a graduate student in Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire. I wasn’t at all surprised to read that your interview assignment is one that your students find to be very valuable. As an introduction to the counseling portion of my undergraduate fluency disorders class we participated in an assignment in which we were required to participate in a pseudo-stuttering experience while at a public place. Many of us chose to pseudo-stutter while ordering food at a restaurant or while checking out at a grocery store. Experiences like these really stick with students because they force us to look beyond textbooks and therapy rooms and into the real life experiences of those individuals who stutter. It’s so encouraging to know that there is a book like yours available. It sounds like it would be an amazing reference to use in addressing the counseling aspect to fluency disorders. A quick question, you mentioned that you have carried out numerous qualitative analyses of data relating to the themes, words, and content categories presented by the individuals featured in your book. While I agree with you that it is important to not to lose sight of the value in the individuals’ actual stories, I am also curious about the results of your analyses. Are they presented in your book or are they available anywhere else?
