Dear Maura, Don't you agree that all of us like to talk about ourselves when we know that the listener is truly interested in our experiences and thoughts? If the information is kept as confidential as the teller wishes it to be, I can't think of many situations, aside from special instances of severe trauma and perhaps mental illness, when telling one's story would be harmful to the person. The first obvious value is that the teller feels validated. Other values and healing follow from self-discovery, discerning whether one's life story should be changed, and so on. You are in a wonderful place to learn about stuttering. Sister Charlene Bloom and Donna Cooperman are wonderful role models and teachers. Learn all you can from them. Ken
