Hi Elizabeth. The situation is even less funny than you think. Based on the research we have to date, that 80% recovery rate only applies to very young children who have been stuttering for a relatively short period of time. For a child who is, say, 5 y/o and has been stuttering 2 years, it is likely that the chances of spontaneous recovery are much, much lower. Yet I have heard of situations in which the “wait and see” advice was given for these types of kids as well (on the basis that they’ll probably outgrow it). “Sadness” is an apt term. Dale
