Barb, Your paper was extremely interesting! I have never heard of 'covert' stuttering. The techniques you described to 'hide' (or help yourself deal with) your stuttering were fascinating to me. I had a few questions to ask you... I have heard when people who stutter read in unison or recite things with other people outloud, their fluency increases. You mentioned you were a cheerleader, and I was wondering if you experienced an increase of fluency while you were cheering. Also, you mentioned that you had some bad experiences in speech therapy. As a future SLP, I am interested to know what some of those experiences were, so I am careful not to create such trauma for some of my future clients. And finally, you said that when you went back to school to get your Master's degree, your stuttering caused you a lot of trouble. When you were working and volunteering in so many activities, but not in school (and therefore not being 'judged') were you more fluent? Thanks again for writing such a great article!
