Sadly, from even my recent experiences, I do not think Professors, like everyone else, are not understanding of the stuttering condition. When I took my prelims in January of 2004, one of the PhDs on my committee said that I could never get an advanced degree with my speech. That is actually what led me to the NSA meeting in Milwaukee. Int he end, this individual was educated about stuttering and even provided some food at my defense. I am 50 now, so I was not going to tolerate that thinking. In my younger days I would have been devastated and never gone further. The ignorance about stuttering is still rampant. I am hoping to help educate the public as best as I can. Thanks, Barb Wimpee
