Dear Barb, Congratulations on completing your Master's Degree and for finding the courage to begin stuttering with and around others. The NSA seems to be a great source of encouragement and reinforcement for your decision. I am glad for you that you found them. I understand wishing you could have found the Milwaukee chapter sooner, but you have accomplished so much in your life before finding them, and learned so much from that part of your life, good and bad, that just being where you are now must feel so great. I think that it is amazing that you have come to this point in your life. As someone who stuttered their whole life, how did you find the courage to accomplish all that you did? You said you were a cheerleader, on teams in high school, graduated with your bachelors degree and now masters degree. All those things obviously involve talking. Were you hiding it all these times? I am curious as to what you did being a covert stutter. Did you just avoid situations that could possibly lead to stuttering or did you teach your self techniques to speak fluently? You are so positive...a real inspiration for others; those who do and don't stutter. I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors, such as helping others accept themselves as you have. Sincerely, Karlyn Hall
