Hi Barb, Thank you, so much, for sharing your interesting story. I suppose, there were times in my life when I tried to pass as a covert stutterer. I became a 'walking thesaurus'. If I had taken a degree in 'word substitution', I would have gained a 1st. My avoidance was considerable - I wouldn't use 13 letters of the alphabet. When I was 19 years of age, I applied to become a police officer. Crazy, I know, but I felt that I needed the challenge. I managed to get through the interview by carefully selecting my responses, but then I had to give evidence in court. I calculated, many weeks in advance, that the oath comprised 23 words AND......I had convinced myself that I couldn't say 19 of them. It was a disaster. From that day on - I could never again be covert ;-) Kindest regards Alan
