Hi Maria, Please call me Alan. I may look a little long in the tooth, but I'm really very young at heart ;-) Thank you for taking the time to contact me - I greatly appreciated the generous sentiments you expressed. I suppose it did take courage and determination to discard the Edinburgh Masker 9after 20 years), but I considered the time was right for me to say farewell to my faithful crutch. I changed the direction of my life on May 4, 2000 when I commenced an holistic approach (via the McGuire Programme). I acquired a new breathing/speaking technique and a wide array of tools to deal with 'feared words'; gained a clearer understanding of the psychological issues relating to stuttering (including the implications of avoidance); and learned about the value of expanding our comfort zones in order to attain personal growth. I was also introduced to the stuttering hexagon concept and accessed a 24 hour support network worldwide. All this gave me the confidence to challenge my self-limiting beliefs, widen my self-image and change my stuttering mindset. Today, life is so much more meaningful. I wish you every success with your studies. Kindest regards Alan
