Hi Alan. Great article. Now I know why you attended my workshop in Long Beach! :) I do wonder about young people who stutter and use IM and text messaging to communicate with their friends. They do it because it's convenient and fun, and because all of their friends are doing it. But for those who stutter, are they also doing it to avoid pressing the call button and speaking to their friend? To avoid saying the words they know they will block on? Technology may bring a shy person out of his or her shell and make them more social, but we have to be sure that we don't rely on it too much and avoid actually speaking with people.
