Hi Gunars, At the 2006 National Stuttering Association Conference in Long Beach, California, I recall Greg Snyder mentioning that he was carrying out work that involved PWS recording their own voices, and then playing them back to themselves via an IPOD, MP3, or whatever ;-) It was totally unrelated to the usual prosthetic devices and incurred only a fraction of the cost. As a matter of interest, when I, initially, acquired my Edinburgh Masker, it included a stethoscope type instrument that I fitted in my ears. It was SO conspicuous. In view of the nature of my work (a serving police officer), I found this both impracticable, and aesthetically unacceptable. Within a short period, I arranged for ear moulds to be supplied locally - a practice that the Masker manufacturers subsequently adopted. I was allowed to wear my hair longer than regulation length which meant that the device (and wiring/tubing/ear moulds) were totally concealed. I wore the control box on a belt beneath my shirt. However, in view of the throat microphone (that was affixed in the region of the Adam's Apple), I could never wear an open-neck shirt, even in the height of summer. Thank you for taking the time to contact me. Kindest regards Alan
