Alan, Thank you for another personal and informative article. Let's suppose you had an SLP knowledgeable about stuttering at various points in your life. How do you think it might have changed some of your choices, it at all? For example, you found the Masker helped you renew much needed public contact while at the same time it became a mechanical crutch. It allowed you to develop useful interpersonal skills but found it to be a dependency. As an SLP, how can I not only make my students aware of their choices, but also give them guidance as to what might be best for them? Sometimes my students seem fine with avoidance and I wonder if I should be challanging them about this or I should be simply accepting that this is what works for them at this time in life. Would you have prefered to have good speech therapy instead of the Masker? Should I dare students to befriend technology or wait until they come to their own decision, as you did on page 6. Ihope this is making sense. I understand that you cannot presume what would be right for another person. I am just asking your opinion. Thank you, Judy Butler
