Hi Jennifer, Thank you for your generous comments about my article. In answer to your initial question, I confirm that I did not receive any formal treatment while wearing the Edinburgh Masker. I simply existed under my own steam and initiatives. I believe that I could have benefited from therapy during that 20 years period, particularly from someone who had an understanding (or could have pointed me in the direction) of approach avoidance; assertiveness; emotional baggage; positive thinking; personal development etc. It would also have been useful to learn about the stuttering hexagon concept at an earlier stage in my life. I did not gain an insight into this (and other psychological aspects of stuttering) until 2000, when I abandoned my Masker, and joined a speech programme. I'm delighted that you are enjoying the involvement with your three clients, and note that it is your intention to specialize in fluency disorders. I wish you every success with your studies. I'm sure that you will benefit from your involvement in events such as this ISAD Online Conference. Kindest regards Alan PS Please give my best wishes to Joe Klein, with whom I shared a workshop at the 2006 National Stuttering Association Annual Conference in Long Beach, California.
