Hi Wendy, Thank you for your question. As I mentioned in my article, I wore the device for 20 years. Although I was never wholly fluent (even when wearing it), the positive experiences that I gained (whilst wearing it) certainly gave me greater overall confidence of speaking. I suppose that the greater maturity that I acquired during that 20 year period, together with the satisfaction of being able to assume greater responsibilities in work and social situations, were also contributory factors. Wearing the apparatus had also enabled me to develop good interpersonal skills, thus puttin g me more at ease in speaking situations. Kindest regards Alan
