Dear Alan, As a student in speech therapy, I have enjoyed your conference article and the many interesting discussions posted here. Your honesty and insight gave me information on this issue that no textbook could have. I have a new appreciation for the concerns of those who stutter and the courageous ways these difficulties can be overcome. (I have also been suspect of the "quick fix" of technology and you so elegantly described the reasons why working from the outside in has its drawbacks.) I was particularly interested in how you made the transition from using technology to "living naked". In one of your answers, you mentioned commencing a "holistic approach" called the McGuire Programme and also the "stuttering hexagon concept." Can you elaborate on these principles and how they helped you, especially after so many years relying on this technological device? Your insights will make me a better therapist, I'm sure! Thanking you in advance for your reply.
