Hi Melisa Thank you for taking the time to read my article, and participate in this threaded discussion. I also greatly appreciated your generous comments. You expressed particular interest in how I made the transition from wearing the Masker to existing without such technological assistance. You also invited me to elaborate upon the holistic approach taken by the McGuire Programme, and the Stuttering Hexagon concept (the brainchild of John Harrison). I think it would be easier if you read the following: (1) 'Stuttering is not just a speech problem’. http://www.mnsu.edu/comdis/kuster/Infostuttering/badmington.pdf ; or http://www.stammering.org/conf2001_alanbadmington/index.html It is the transcript of a speech that I gave at the British Stammering Association annual conference in September 2001, and relates the stuttering hexagon to my own experiences (up to that date). So much has happened since then, but the article will give you an insight into what has happened during my life. (2) How I recovered from stuttering (by John Harrison): http://www.mnsu.edu/comdis/kuster/Infostuttering/Harrison/john.htm (This is an account of how John dealt with his stuttering problem, and incorporates more information about the stuttering hexagon.) You may also wish to check out the McGuire Programme website at: http://www/mcguireprogramme.com May I also suggest that you read my earlier responses (in this discussion) to Maria Palmieri, Walt Manning and Judy Butler. Simply, click on ‘Contents’ above, and then click (separately) on the comments that I have provided for each of the above persons. You will find the entries immediately after their respective names. A few of my previous ISAD Online Conference papers may also shed some further light on my personal circumstances: (1)How I changed my stuttering mindset’: http://www.mnsu.edu/comdis/isad8/papers/badmington8.html (2) 'STEP OUTSIDE: Why expanding comfort zones can improve our stuttering and lead to more fulfilling lives': http://www.mnsu.edu/comdis/isad6/papers/badmington6.html Melisa, I’m delighted that you have found this online conference so enlightening. Such events are to our mutual benefit. I wish you every success with your studies. Kindest regards Alan
