Hello Heidi Thanks for your comment. I have tried a couple of times to contact Tim Gallwey by email, most recently to send him a copy of this paper. He hasn’t responded. There could be any number of reasons for that, including the possibility that the email address I found was out of date. I get the impression that Tim Gallwey has had a lot of people telling him how relevant his ideas are to different subjects. In his introduction to the Inner Game of Music, co-authored with Barry Green, Gallwey, mentions that he has been approached by many people to co-author Inner Game books on a variety of subjects. He says that rather than cranking out simple ‘translations’ of the inner game into different fields he felt it was important for inner game methods to be re-created to reflect the unique aspects of a particular subject. When Barry Green first approached him about writing a book, Gallwey told him to go away and spend a few years exploring the possibilities that the Inner Game might bring to music before talking further about writing a book. One reason why I find Tim Gallwey’s books so helpful is that each of them represents a breakthrough experience for the author. Many of the ideas he presents are not particularly new and his conceptual framework (Self 1 and Self 2) seems awkward at times. But Gallwey’s way of presenting ideas is highly effective because he is telling the story of his own experiences in learning how to perform better as a player and coach in various fields. Regards Winton
