Hello Ellen. Yes, I also use other visualisation and metaphor to strengthen the inner feeling of success. In the section of my paper dealing with expressing qualities I mention Tim Gallwey’s suggestion to bring to mind an image of the quality that you want to bring to an activity. When I read that, the image that came to mind to encapsulate the quality I wanted to bring to my speech was the waterfall that I could hear in the background whenever I went to my “peaceful place”. The peaceful place is a mental image – a place in my mind where I go whenever I need some time out. (I found this about 12 years ago after reading the book, “Piece of Mind” by Sandy Macgegor.) Any how, let us get back to the waterfall. This is an image of power and fluency. The water just keeps flowing. It sparkles with life and vitality. When I have this image in mind as I speak I have no concern at all about fluency. That raises the question of why I don’t use this visual anchor all the time. As I mention in the paper I have sometimes found it hard to decide what qualities to express. In my childhood when I was craving fluency I would never have imagined that I would actually have to give myself permission to be a powerful speaker. Many thanks for this question. Winton
