Thanks Prakhar. You have raised an important point. I think your question can be paraphrased as follows: “What is the problem with trying to talk yourself into a positive frame of mind?” I don’t think there is any problem at all when the positive images flow freely. The problem is in trying to impose one layer of programming on top of another eg struggling with self-doubt by trying to convince yourself that you feel confident. Rather than giving you my interpretation on what Tim Gallwey is saying, I think a better way to clarify the point would be to quote an example he gives: <<Imagine yourself as a short-tempered person; if you tried to change that image by repeating positive thoughts constantly it might go something like this: “I never lose my temper … I never lose my temper … [EXPLETIVE DELETED !!!] I NEVER LOSE MY TEMPER”. The inevitable blowup will be twice as big because you’ve fed it twice the energy; you’ve paid so much attention to repressing your temper that soon everything irritates you >> (“Inner game of golf”, p 181-2). I hope this helps. Best regards. Winton
