Hi Rachel. You wrote: <<Tim Galloway's books are great! My husband and I are currently reading The Inner Game of Tennis. I love the concept of relating them to stuttering. What other specific techniques have you found to help you overcome Self 1? >> Now you are making me think! One thing that comes to mind is: watching the seams of the ball (see Inner game of tennis, p 79). When we are watching the seams of the ball our minds are too preoccupied to interfere with our natural movement. The equivalent in speech is to focus on things like: movement, gesture, eye contact, loudness or softness of voice, rate of speaking, pitch, tone, vocal variety etc. Another suggestion that Gallwey makes somewhere is to leave aside all concern about results and just play with the intention of having fun. I think that is relevant to just about everything! Cheers, Winton.
