Hi Ms. Blom. You are right, stuttering is not talked about enough! Even in the field of Speech-Language Pathology, many educational programs do not include a course about fluency until graduate school. I agree that if stuttering were talked about more, children who stutter may receive more help in school, more research may be done, and society in general may be more comfortable with stuttering. The example about the girl whose stutter causes her eyes to close while driving is very interesting. I’m sure there are many other similar ways in which people are affected by their stutter, and in these instances the stutter most definitely is a disability. Your article really pointed out that although some people who stutter are not disabled by it, some people are, and they need help! I hope a day will come when stuttering is a topic that people in society are more comfortable with. In America most people know little about it, and judging from your article the same is true in Europe. If you have any more insight about stuttering in European society I would love to hear about it. Thanks for your article!
