Hi Cortney You make a wise statement there. The fact that people try to "help" us by filling in the words, laughing and other behavior they might not do to other people (yes, one person even carried my bags for me!), is often because they simply don't know how to react and don't dare to ask. So it's important those of us who are comfortable with our stutter (if ever...) to show to other people it's ok to ask. And we should also stop trying to think we "know" what other people are thinking about us, because we can't. So we have to make others feel it's ok to talk about stuttering and to ask, as well as feel ok about ourselves to ask others what they think. And the answer to that question might surprise us... Anita
