hi B: Yes, I agree that VR has great promise for use with children who stutter. VR has been used in pediatric populations before (Hoffman and colleagues have published reports on pain distraction using VR in young cancer patients for example). You rightly mention a number of possible reasons for VR use (safety, confidentiality and control being the three main ones). The challenge is to develop virtual worlds that have real meaning for children, as those developed for adults may not be that useful for kids (e.g., the job interview). Work is being done in this area. Skip (Albert) Rizzo and his colleagues have developed a virtual classroom for use with kids with ADHD, and Joe Donaher and his colleagues have developed a virtual classroom for use with CWS.
