How interesting! I have never thought about the use of Virtual Reality as an intervention technique, but I can see the potential benefits. I am a first year graduate student at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and am just starting to learn about stuttering intervention strategies. This would be an excellent tool to use in the hierarchy of carry-over. As I have learned, oftentimes a person who stutters can be very fluent in the therapy room, but immediately disfluent once back in the “real world.” The use of VR might help bridge the gap between the two and provide a “safe” environment in the process. And especially with the popularity of video games in today’s society, VR would be an enjoyable activity to use in a therapy session. As I read in one of your posted responses, this might also be an effective therapy tool for children with autism or voice disorders. How would you implement VR into therapy? Would it be introduced from the beginning of therapy, or later down the line? Thank you! Katia Rinehart
