hi Zach You have hit on the philosophical "heart" of VR. Some folks really cannot become "immersed" in the virtual envrionments, and for these folks the VR experience is not as helpful, b/c it does not activate fear structures in the same way that the real world does (this is from fear and phobia literature). For those who can become immersed, the immersion tends to happen quickly and can be sustained for periods of up to 40 minutes or so (I generally take people out of the VR after 40 mins to reduce likelihood of VR-induced nausea, a rare occurrence).
