Hi Alison, I would defintely use self-charting in a group of kids with different issues. I would talk about "communication" and what that meant and probably talk about the "speech machine" and how each child is focused on something different. I would have them do their own charts, although they could do double charting for things like eye contact or turn taking that they were all working on. In the classroom we set up "contract cards", where a small short goal is written such as "John will say 6 science words at Mrs. Smith's desk with easier starts and eye contact." After each time the child and teacher do it, they "check for agreement" as to whether or not they thought it went well. They put the date on the card and repeat the same task until the week is up and the next card is issued. Best of luck!
