Thank you for your question. I see a child who would not discuss any feeling other than "fine" for weeks. I relentlessly plopped down the form for about 8 visits before the light started to shine through the crack. I am thrilled that he is now suggesting additions to his feelings list. Beyond that, he has begun to cirle two feelings for one event. Example: "worried" and, at the same time, "excited" about upcoming exames. I like a kids book called Double Dip Feelings. Also Proud of Your Feelings by Lindsay Leghorn. In my opinion and practice, if a clients "issues" revolve around stuttering, it is our responsibility to develop the needed counseling skills. If we can't (I have been blessed with many opportunitis to study counseling) we need to consult. If there are concerns that aren't closely related to speech, I am quick to refer. That said, there are no topics that can't be mentioned by a client in my office. Also, if we are referring and individual who stutters to a counslor who doesn't know much about stuttering we need to confer with the counselor and educate about stuttering stuff.
