John, I enjoyed this. When you think about it, all avoidance habits (i.e., word changing) are driven by the intention to NOT STUTTER. We know that any and all behaviors designed to conceal or hide stuttering will ultimately result in a handicap. I see many children doing character voices to prevent stuttering. When I think about Bill Walton of Ken Venturi having the nerve to audition for live sports commentating I know their intention to speak and be heard was greater than old intentions they may have had in childhood (to conceal). In fact, the Stuttering Foundations poster is full of people who developed an intention to earn freedom of speech. Intention is right at the core of success. Regards, Tim
