YOU SAY.... I feel that individuals who stutter, and most people in general, often look at the less-than-perfect results of their actions as failures. Whatever the outcome, positive or negative, one can be proud that they took the initiative to make something happen. .... MY RESPONSE.... You got THAT right, Emily. PWS usually live in a very dichotomized world. Things are good or bad. Right or wrong. Fluent or non-fluent. There is often no middle ground. Focusing on intentions helps to avoid that pothole. So does restructuring your thinking so you don't automatically beat yourself up if you're not being perfect. In fact, the best antidote for performance fears (a category that blocking falls into) is to have fun. I can't tell you how many PWS I've had in my public speaking workshops who, when I encouraged them to start playing and having fun in front of the group, suddenly found it much easier to speak. Regards....John
