I am very sorry that you felt that you had to abandon your studies, Joseph. I hope that you will continue them when you feel stronger and better able to stand up to bullying. It is hard to remember that when a bully is cruel, he only shows how stupid he really is. It still hurts to be bullied. Sometimes you have to be practical. There is nothing shameful about taking the work that you can do, as long as it is honest work. But you owe it to yourself and to those who you must take care of to try to meet your dreams and be the best person you can be. Sometimes you have to be very brave and face the lion of intolerance. During my lifetime, several oppressed groups in America have done this and have been fairly successful at diminishing, if not destroying, prejudice. One way people find the strength to face down prejudice is to form groups where they can be free to be themselves. It is always easier if you have allies. Do you have an association for people who stutter in Uganda? Do you know other people who stutter? You can form a stuttering club and work together to help one another to learn to face prejudice with strength and dignity. If you keep thinking that you want to make your society better for those who come after you, it will be much easier. Lou Heite
