Louise, I appreciated your article. As an SLP, I don't always see that students and clients are aware of the oppression. An illustration of this is when I try to encourage advertizing. I encounter so much resistance to advertizing. I think my students fail to see that people may be judging them negatively - until a specific incident happens. Then, they are hurt and angry and focused upon the single person who reacted negatively to them. How do I encourage them to be proactive, dispell any myths that all the other listeners may be harboring but not saying out loud? I think oppression can be hidden. Looking back over my 50 years of living, I now see instances of negative bias for different reasons. I wish someone had made me aware of what was going on. Thanks, Judy Butler
