Hello Joshua, Good to hear from you. Two points: First, yes, stutterers over here ARE discriminated against, but probably not nearly to the extent you described. As I mentioned I was probably very lucky not to have been a victim of discrimination. I was always surrounded by people who cared a lot more about WHAT I was doing than HOW I was saying it. Second, my reference to "a gun to my head" is a figure of speech, not what really happened. In America, that phrase really means that I was put into a situation that I really didn't have much of a choice, regardless of what I WANTED to do. I did not WANT to join the NSA or Toastmasters, but those two guys literally gave me no choice but to do what THEY wanted me to do. Those were the best decisions I ever made, but at the time I would have rather done almost anything else but to join those two organizations. I should write an entire ISAD paper on those two decisions. Maybe next year... <smile> There was really no guns involved. I personally HATE guns! And I really don't think that stutterers are any more violent - or less violent - than any other part of the population. I hope you enjoy this wonderful conference! My best, Russ
