Hi Russ, not sure if I agree with the stuttering is gift idea. Having spent most of my life being a covert stammerer and hiding my stammer I certainly never thought it as a gift because of the difficulties it posed. Looking back on my soon to be 50 years I can see that I have had a moderate amount of success too, I have a great family, friends, a reasonably responsible job and I think life hasn't been too bad. But this is with the benefit of hindsight and life experience. It is only since I bagan to accept my stammer in the past couple of years that I can see any value in having a stammer, I have met some amazing people through my stutter, I have met people from around the world, I have learned a lot about myself but still struggle with the idea of my stammer being a gift. And certainly my daughter, aged 8, without the benefit of hindsight, does not consider her stammer a gift, in fact about 6 months ago she asked me what she had done so wrong that God would punish her by giving her a stammer, a question I was ill equiped to answer. So, yes, a stammer can shape a person and make them strong and determined and can lead a person in directions they wouldn't have gone otherwise and give them opportunities they wouldn't have thought of but as for a stutter being a gift, for me the jury is still out best regards Veronica
