Your story is truly inspirational. My name is Katie, and I am currently enrolled in my first semester of grad school. My favorite class right now is fluency, although it is at the undergraduate level (I have a different bachelor's degree and so I still have a couple pre-req courses). Before taking this course, I was never really interested in stuttering--that is to say that I never really thought much about it. I never knew anyone who stuttered and so I don't think that I was ever truly exposed to it before now. During the first day of class, my professor (Joe) began to speak, and there it was. He stuttered. Joe began to tell us about his life and his passion to help others, and how the fact that he stutters has really affected his life positively. Before taking this class, I never realized how difficult it is for someone who stutters. I can only imagine how hard it must be, and how scary at times to even try to communicate with people. After meeting Joe, I became very interested in stuttering and now I find myself doing research online (even when there's no homework) to try to learn more about it. When I read this article, I felt a sense of pride and happiness overwhelm me, although we don't even know each other. I think that your story is inspiring and I am so glad you were brave enough to put yourself out there, and I am sure the rewards are well worth it. Good luck in all you do, and you should know that the world is a better place because of people like you!
