Hi Shannon, ..... Thanks for your kind words. You might also read the article titled "Mind Matters" by Ellen-Marie Silverman in this ISAD conference. A lot of what she says has direct impact on one's beliefs and attitudes toward anything in life. You experience what you believe. It has a direct bearing on my paper. Her paper is really amazing and well worth reading. ..... You asked, "Do you feel that your stuttering would have improved with lasting results if the emotional components, as well as the speech mechanics, of stuttering were addressed during that time?" Without being flippant, I would say yes. However that's like asking if we would have had the Salk polio vaccine prior to 1955 (when it came out) would we have had less polio back then? Well yes! <grin> The truth of the matter is that we did NOT have the Salk vaccine prior to 1955 and we did NOT know about the emotional aspects of stuttering until around 1970. The old adage says that hindsight is 20/20. If only we knew then what we know now... How true. ..... But the good news is that we DO know about those good things today and we can treat a LOT more conditions a LOT more successfully than we ever have been able to before. If we can keep from blowing up the world, the future is bright indeed! ..... I wish you the very best in school and in life, Shannon! ..... Russ
